January 25, 2012 Not much has changed so far in the month of January! Trails are marked and signed everywhere with the exception of the trail to Warroad which remains closed. The Ballard trail going to/from Baudette has been open since early January. There are more pressure ridges than usual this year and they seem to change from day to day, so use caution and check the conditions closely before crossing.
January 1, 2012 Due to the unseasonably warm weather and the high winds, many people have been talking about bad ice conditions on Lake of the Woods. Here at the Northwest Angle the ice is very good except for a few pressure ridges, but they are being worked and there are points to safely cross. As of today there are minimal stakes marking the main lake trails. Plans are to have the local trails staked and signed to Driftwood by the end of the week. The trail is NOT open to Warroad and Baudette at this time. Watch for further updates. As soon as the ice is safe and staked we will let you know!
We just got our first couple inches of snow so the land trails have not been groomed. As soon as we get ample snow, the groomers will be out in full force.
